What Is This Program?

Since 1977, AHEC West has coordinated health professions student rotations across Western Maryland and the broader region. We place students from the University of Maryland system and health professions programs nationwide in clinical settings — connecting them with rural and underserved communities and the dedicated practitioners who serve them.

More than 3,000 students across a wide range of disciplines have rotated through AHEC West placements. Since 2014, more than 30% of those students have gone on to practice in Medically Underserved Areas or Health Professional Shortage Areas — a direct reflection of the program's mission.

Clinical Education is open to health professions students from any accredited program — not just Maryland schools.
