Use your recovery to help others
Are you in recovery? You can get trained to help other people. This class gives you all 52 hours of training you need to apply for your Maryland certificate.
Your own recovery is where this starts
This class is for people who have been through mental health or drug and alcohol recovery. You already know what it takes. This class teaches you how to use what you know to help other people. And how to get paid for it.
A group called MABPCB approves this class. They are the board that certifies peer recovery specialists in Maryland. Every hour you spend here counts toward your certificate.
Most of the class is online. You meet on Zoom for the first 30 hours. One class is a full day. You finish the rest on your own time.
What you are signing up for
What you will learn
The board asks for five subjects. Here is what each one covers.
How to help people get what they need from doctors, courts, and other services.
The rules peer specialists follow. How to stay professional when you are close to someone.
How to guide someone. How to share your own story in a way that helps them.
There is more than one way to recover. How to make a wellness plan and support someone for the long haul.
How to meet people where they are. This also covers medicines used to treat addiction.
We help you keep track of your hours and fill out your application.

Just need a few hours?
You can take some classes on their own. This helps if you only need a few hours. Maybe you are finishing your first certificate. Maybe you are renewing one you already have.
These count toward your first certificate
Two classes are only sold as part of the full training. Those are CCAR Recovery Coach Academy® and Mental Health First Aid.
These count toward renewing your certificate
The full class is a better deal. It costs $499 for 52 hours. That is about half the price per hour.
